Dorothy Dobbin's NI emigration story

Leaving Belfast in the 1950s for Canada in search of a better life

Northern Ireland experienced large-scale emigration in the 1950s and like many who went before and after her, Dorothy Dobbin and her husband Sam left Belfast for Canada in search of a better life. It was her sheer determination and willingness that helped provide the lives and opportunities for her family that were unimaginable when she left Belfast.

Dorothy died in August 2023 at the fantastic age of 96. Read more about her NI emigration experience and the life she made for her and her family in Toronto.
