Friendship Series Returns to Belfast in 2026
Founded by The Odyssey Trust, the Friendship Series is the first and only NCAA Division 1 women’s ice hockey tournament to take place outside North America. Since its debut in 2019, the series has showcased world-class talent while strengthening cultural and educational ties between Belfast and Boston. After three successful two-team tournaments in 2019, 2020, and 2024, the event is set to return in January 2026 with its biggest lineup yet.
For the first time ever, four elite teams will compete at The SSE Arena, Belfast:
- Boston University
- Harvard University
- Quinnipiac University
- University of Minnesota-Duluth
These powerhouse teams will hit the ice on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 January, marking a new chapter for women’s hockey and for Belfast’s growing reputation as a hub for international sporting events.
More Than a Game: Building Global Connections
Much like its men’s counterpart, the Friendship Four - which saw Miami University claim victory in November 2025 - the Friendship Series is about more than sport. It’s designed to promote education, social welfare, and community engagement, building on the Sister Cities agreement between Belfast and Boston.
