Approval given for new purpose-built Aquarium

The reefLIVEAquarium will be based at Titanic Quarter, Belfast

reefLIVEAquarium will to bring forward plans to develop a £12 million aquarium in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter following the decision of Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee to approve the state-of-the-art attraction.

The reefLIVE aquarium will be located on the Queen’s Road opposite the Titanic Hotel, a short distance from the world’s number one visitor attraction, titanic Belfast.

The development is estimated to generate 80-100 jobs during construction and 51 full-time jobs once operational.

Once open the Aquarium will be the largest Ocean visitor attraction on the island of Ireland. With expect visitor numbers of more than 300,000 people each year it aims to help boost the length of each tourist visit to Northern Ireland.

An aquarium for the 21st Century

The aquarium will respond to the increase in public interest in marine life, and the environmental issues facing species and habitats off the shores of Britain and Ireland, and around the world.

The aims to inspire and educate visitors about the marine environment and how it can and should be properly managed and conserved.

reefLIVE will create an immersive visitor experience using:

  • High quality live displays
  • Recreated international marine environments
  • Cutting edge immersive technology

Construction will begin later this year and reefLIVE Belfast Aquarium hopes to open to the public in 2022.  Find out more about the project >>
