148th Open Golf Championship at Royal Portrush

The 148th Open Golf Championship one of the biggest golf events took place in Northern Ireland from 14-21 July 2019

The Open hosted at  Royal Portrush Golf Club for the first time in almost 70 years and produced an incredible championship. Many congratulations to The Open championship winner Shane Lowry.

The Causeway Coast was the focus of unprecedented media attention and was showcased to thousands of visitors and millions of viewers globally.  People across Northern Ireland provided a Giant Welcome to eager spectators who enjoyed an amazing atmosphere.

'We've Come a Long Way'

To celebrate the return of The 148th Open to Royal Portrush, Discover Northern Ireland created a short film, 'We've Come A Long Way'

Set to an original poem by local poet Paula Matthews, the film is narrated by four leading actors, and accompanied by an original score composed and performed by Belfast-born virtuoso pianist, Michael McHale.

Demand for the Open Tickets

All tickets for the 148th Open Championship Days sold out.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, executive director of the R&A, which organises the Open, said demand had been unprecedented.

"It is clear from the record-breaking ticket sales that golf fans are looking forward to the long-awaited return of the Open to Northern Ireland," he said.

"We knew there would be great demand but it has been even higher than we expected”
