Belfast City Centre Construction Positive

Construction in Belfast has sustained momentum and a high level of ambition

The third annual Deloitte Belfast Crane Survey highlights Belfast has sustained momentum through 2018

The Belfast Crane Survey report highlights the Belfast Regional City Deal as a positive with £350 million secured to support value added infrastructure projects over the coming years.  

Key Highlights:

  • Over 400,000 sq ft of new office space started construction in 2018
  • 35 Schemes are currently under construction
  • 1,249 hotel rooms were completed in 2018
  • Construction began on an additional 200 new hotel rooms
  • 2,029 student accommodation bed spaces were completed
  • Two new student accommodation blocks started construction – containing 750 rooms
  • Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University continue to develop their estates through capital investment programmes.
  • Ambitious landmark developments due to start in 2019 include Belfast Waterside (the former Sirocco Works) and the £500m mixed-use development by Castlebrook Investment
