Friendship Four Tournament 2018

Union College claim the 2018 Belpot Trophy

The Belfast City Council’s Sister City agreement with Boston has played a vital role in helping to host the prestigious Friendship Four tournament since 2015 and also to see it’s return in 2018.
This four game tournament featured elite ice hockey players from Boston University, Yale University, The University of Connecticut and Union College all competing to hoist the Belpot Trophy for their University. With many of these young athletes soon to be NHL stars, this will be the first chance for sports fans in Europe to see them up close.

The fourth annual Friendship Four came to a close on Saturday 24 November in Belfast with Union College, claiming the 2018 title with a dramatic 2-1 victory vs Boston University.

Union College follows in the footsteps of previous Friendship Four Champions – University of Massachusetts Lowell (2015), University of Vermont (2016) and Clarkson University (2017).

Our fourth annual Friendship Four was a huge success ending in an exciting final on Saturday. Record numbers watched the 2018 tournament with the four games beamed into millions of homes around the world with over 23,000 fans catching the action live at The SSE Arena.
